Welcome to DC Ski Mom!

Winter 23/24 is here! Whitetail has announced that they plan to be open Saturday, January 6th! The Whitetail Women’s program begins Saturday morning, and we look forward to welcoming everyone for a great season of learning and camaraderie! As always, I’m also available for lessons in the afternoons, just ask at the reservations desk, I’d love to ski with you!

Here’s a little bit more about me and why I started this blog:

I am a Level 2 PSIA certified ski instructor who works every weekend at Whitetail Resort, 1.5 hours from DC. I live in Northern VA, and I am a mom of two super busy girls. I knew that making sure I raised a skiing and outdoor family in this area was not going to be easy, but it would be worth it. It’s definitely doable – even on a budget, and with somewhat limited time. All you need is the drive to make it happen! This blog will give you basic advice about how to get your kids out on the slopes and trails, and make sure everyone’s happy (most of the time!).

You’ll also find a few thoughts about some other things that matter to me – including climate change, and a few random musings about apres ski recipes and fun. As a professional ski instructor, I am closely aware of the changes to our climate and the erratic snow patterns global warming is causing. Of course this is not the main reason to fight climate change –our kids’ future and the health of our planet is– so I’ll be sharing things you can do to make a difference. No matter what, we need to protect our winters that we love, right?

Back when they were small and cute. Those were the days – before teenagers!
