What to wear skiing in the DC area

Some basic rules for what to wear skiing in the mid-Atlantic DC area:

— Temps can vary so much, but it’s often warmer than typical ski gear is meant to handle. Layers are key!
— A light base layer (tech top) covered by a mid layer fleece or sweater and a lightly insulated ski jacket or shell is usually plenty warm.

— Gloves or mittens should be waterproof and have some type of insulation.
— Helmets are important. If you’re renting ski gear, a helmet comes with the rental package, but you should bring ski goggles or full-coverage sunglasses to protect your eyes.
— On the bottom half, long underwear and a good pair of ski pants should keep you plenty warm, and just one pair of ski socks (not too thick!) is great.
